Calero Improves International Reach in a ‘Significant Step’ with A&B Groep Acquisition

Calero has made its second acquisition of 2018, this time snapping up A&B Groep out of the Netherlands. The announcement came on Jan. 11.

This represents the second AOTMP Efficiency First® Certified Solution Vendor Calero has purchased this year.

The acquisition gives Calero immediate reach into a very hot international region. As AOTMP Research noted in its recent report, What to Expect from TEM/EMM Services: 2018-2020, Europe represents possibly the fastest-growing region in the world. More enterprises are expanding within Europe, and realizing the need to control expenses and contribute to strategic outcomes via management platforms and expertise.

In addition, Europe’s hyper focus on updated privacy regulations will require more in-depth, and proactive, management of data handling, end-user mobile policy and compliance. Operating in Europe further requires local assets, people who know compliance. Calero gains this inherent expertise by buying A&B Groep.

“The global enterprise continues to search for vendors that allow for centralized global service management for their telecom services,” said Andrew Hartwyk senior research director at AOTMP. “Calero takes a strong step in providing this service through acquisition, and the key will be the convergence of service delivery for enterprise clients.”

The A&B Groep news comes on the heels of Calero’s Comview announcement on Jan. 4. Calero purchased 20-year-old Comview for an undisclosed amount in a move that bolstered its customer base. Calero’s activity means the company will need to be careful to avoid some of the same pitfalls its peers have encountered when buying multiple companies with different platforms. Such pitfalls include company culture mismatches, disparate account management approaches, incomplete technology integration plans, and short-sighted technology evolution strategies.

To the point about technology integration, it helps that A&B focuses more on managed services than on software. AOTMP analysts therefore have little concern about Calero bringing together separate systems, as A&B Groep likely will use Calero’s software. Therefore, “customer impact should remain minimal where technology is concerned,” said Kim Warren, vice president, vendor program management at AOTMP.

Indeed, “this marks a significant step for Calero as it finds balance between increasing its customer base and expanding internationally,” Hartwyk said. A&B Groep boasts extensive local expertise in mobility and mobility optimizations, a strength that only stands to serve Calero well.

A&B Groep now becomes Calero EMEA Headquarters with Ron Rijkenberg, A&B Groep CEO, leading operations there.

The terms of the Calero-A&B deal remain confidential.
