Our world is increasingly connected, with much of our activity taking place online. All of this convenience, however, comes at a price of an increased vulnerability to hackers. With remote work and bring your own device (BYOD) on the rise, home and work cybersecurity must be beefed up. In the event that this is not done, it may result in:

  • Identity theft
  • Hackers gaining access to your devices, your passwords, and your personal information
  • Compromised home security or work networks

To protect your network and organization’s data, AOTMP recommends comparing your data accuracy and integrity to the following checklist:

Does your network use a firewall?

Does your network have active anti-virus and anti-malware software?

Are company mobile devices secured with on-device encryption?

Does your organizations remote employees have access to a VPN?

Does your organization restrict personal device access to the company network?

Does your organization have a data backup routine?

Does your organization have at least one data backup offline?

Does your company and employee emails have phishing filters or a way to combat email spam?

Does your organization use multi-factor authentication to gain access to your network?

Is your organizations data and communications fully encrypted?

Is your file-sharing software secured; are using cloud sharing rather than emailing important documents?

Are all inactive or terminated employee accounts and email deactivated?

Answer Key

Rate your Data Protection Level using the following scale:

12 YES answers = Excellent Protection, as long as your policies are being enacted, your security measures are likely to be very effective.

11-7 YES answers = Moderate Protection, your defenses are effective; but still strategize on how to cover your other network weaknesses at a later date.

6 or fewer YES answers = Low Protection, AOTMP recommends that you look into updating your Data Security and Integrity policies, as your current security policies are likely to put your company and employee data at serious risk.
